News & Updates

Hello,
I hope you are all well and safe. I am Sara Alves, I am a filmmaker, very passionate about documentaries with special attention to controversial events and war stories. My published thesis was about filmmaking in controversial events and my aim as a filmmaker is to give voice to female narratives in under-represented European countries. The Director of Photography working with me is also very devoted to female stories and she is an activist for female empowerment. I have a project close to my heart that I would love to develop about female stories during the Bosnian War. It’s a concept that I have been developing for a year, since I have met a friend who was adopted during the Bosnian war. His feeling of loss and his absence of knowledge about his roots, motivated me to pursue this project.

To accomplish that, I am looking for mothers/ women who endured the Bosnian War, mothers/ women who escaped the country during the war to find better opportunities either with their families or who were forced to leave their family behind. Due to this pandemic, we can do a small introductory interview first through skype or by phone call or if they want to be anonymous we can do it written. They don’t need to use their real names if they prefer, it is the stories that count. Hopefully it will be cathartic for the interviewees to finally be heard and it will be interesting for other Bosnian descendents to understand their heritage through first account testimonies. I am also looking for charities and organisations who helped support these women and also have an important testimony to tell. Let me know if you would be interested in this concept and we can book a zoom call to discuss further. Please have a look at the pitch documents below about the project.

Thank you for your support and involvement in the project,
All the best,
Sara Alves
