Recently, BH UK Network took part in another art project. The premises of the Bosnian House are already decorated with all the works of art and the words of twenty-four young people who living in the Hall Green, Balsall Heath, Moseley, Kings Heath, Spoarkbrook and Sparkhill areas. Of the numerous works, twenty-five are on display at the Bosnian House. Young Bosnians and Herzegovinans attending schools in the aforementioned schools also took part in the competition.
‘How have you been staying safe and positive during lockdown?’ That was the topic that sparked a flood of entries for the Youth Covid Challenge schools art competition. It was designed to give children aged 10 to 18 a platform to express how the rules and realities that have defined this third lockdown of 2021 have affected them.
We are impressed by the quality of the entries and believe that their apparent diversity is a testament to the unique experiences the young people had over the past year.
There are six winners in total – a gold, silver and bronze award for two age categories (10-14 and 15-18 years).

The title of the competition aims to to express the concept of “rules” from the perspective of young people. The idea that we are all subject to the same ‘rules’ has been dominant in our lives for a year now, but we know that it is not that simple. We wanted to explore what rules mean to young people, how they responded to the imposition of strict rules?
“The virus made me reconsider the luxury I lived in – the freedom, the abundance of products and how much I took them for granted. I learned to appreciate simplicity and understand how little is really needed to live a decent, yet satisfied life, and not to want more – because even without rest, delivered food or parties, I progressed, quite healthy and happy,” said ten-year-old Iona.
