Pride of Banja Luka residents in Great Britain

Among the many, at meetings of the BiH community in Great Britain, we often meet some well-known faces. Mrs. Hasedžić’s cheerful smile and Mr. Kapetanović’s charm certainly stand out in the crowd.

Safet Isović sang:

Šeher grade, Banja Luka my love
You amazed the whole of Bosnia.

And indeed it is. Both Banja Luka residents, Mr. Midho Kapetanović and Mrs. Fahira Hasedžić , are the embodiment of Banja Luka pride in Great Britain. Due to a combination of circumstances during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they were the first generation to come to Great Britain. These two Banja Luka residents, with their immeasurable and selfless work, have greatly contributed to the organization, development and activities of Bosnian citizens in Great Britain.

Mr. Kapetanović currently lives in Derby. He is the oldest active member of the BH Association Derby. Since his arrival in Great Britain, he has been an active member of the Executive Board of the BH Association Derby. For a few years he also served as the treasurer of the BH UK Network. Although he is 84 years old, he decided not only to attend the meetings of the BH supplementary schools, but also to help with the organization. A gentleman, as they say about Mr. Kapetanović, he often helps the dear housewives in preparing food for guests. Anyone who knows Midha knows that he is a calm, principled and meticulous gentleman, who defies age with his charm and cheerful spirit. You can still see and talk to him at various activities in the BH Center Derby, which he regularly attends.

Fahira Hasedžić
, our hardworking and lovely folklore instructor, a proud Banja Luka resident who travels every week between Nottingham-Birmingham-Derby, with the aim of preserving, nurturing, improving and promoting our folklore heritage. Since the very foundation of the KUD “Mladost Bosne” and “Bosanski Biseri”, they have been led by choreographer Fahira, professionally and thoughtfully. By the way, before coming to Great Britain, our Fahira was actively involved in folklore in the KUD “Budućnost” in Banja Luka. For more than two decades, Fahira has been the guardian of Bosnian and Herzegovinian culture and the tradition of Bosnian folklore groups in England, trying to ensure that under her watchful eye both groups represent the Bosnian community at various festivals and parties, especially on the occasion of national holidays. For years, she has been actively involved in humanitarian work, and Ms. Hasedžić personally carried and delivered donations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dear friends,

You are our heroes and pride.
