Emir Bolić and the mayor

Recently, BH UK Network presented a certificate of appreciation to Emir Bolić for his many years of contribution to organizing the commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide.

Emir Bolić is a long-time member of the BH UK Network and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Association Birmingham, who is involved in various activities, including commemorating the genocide in Srebrenica. In 2011 and 2015 he was also awarded “Volunteer of the Year” for his contribution to our community in the UK. Mr. Bolić is known to everyone as a teacher and a long-time active member of the Bosnian community in Great Britain.

Emir was one of the brave Bosnians who came to the UK to start a new chapter in their lives after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was born and raised in Sarajevo. During the war in the 90s he was in the Army fighting for peace, his country and better times in Bosnia. However, fate took him on a different path. After arriving in the UK, as a mechanical engineer, he taught at South and City College and Telford College. Today he is a teacher at Sandwell College.

Since arriving in the UK, he has been volunteering and helping vulnerable members of the Bosnian community. He has also made a major contribution to the purchase and renovation of the Bosnian House in Birmingham. where the local Bosnian community receives support and where Bosnian culture is celebrated.

For more than 20 years, Emir has been volunteering as a teacher for young BiH. for generations at the BiH secondary school in Birmingham. Despite working full-time, he comes to the Bosnian House every Saturday to teach the younger generations about the Bosnian language, mathematics, and Bosnian culture and traditions. It involves them in different activities.

Emir is an inspiring, encouraging person. the young people of Bosnia and Herzegovina to live to their full potential and see the best in themselves. It soon became clear that Mr. Bolić became a true role model for young Bosnians and Herzegovinians, children of Bosnian refugees living in Great Britain. He works tirelessly to promote the culture, language and heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while at the same time reminding young people to be proud of their dual British-Bosnian identity.

Thank you to our Emir for his selfless contribution to the BiH community in Great Britain.
