Since May, Wizz Air has opened nine airlines from Sarajevo, among them London and Paris

Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest-growing airline, today announced the opening of its 41st base in Sarajevo. It also announced the basing of an Airbus A320 aircraft at Sarajevo International Airport in May 2021.

In addition to establishing a new base, Wizz Air has also announced the launch of nine new routes from Sarajevo to cities in seven countries from May 2021. Seats on the new flights can already be booked on wizzair.com or via the airline’s mobile app at prices starting from 38.99 BAM/19.99 euros. Wizz Air has been flying from Bosnia and Herzegovina since May 2013, when the first aircraft took off from Tuzla to Malmö. In the past eight years, they have carried almost three million passengers to and from BiH. With this expansion, Wizz Air continues to grow its operations in BiH by 50 percent, maintaining its leading position in the market. The Airbus A320 aircraft will operate flights on nine new routes: Brussels Charleroi , Copenhagen , Dortmund , Eindhoven , Gothenburg , London Luton , Memmingen , Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (Euroairport) and Paris Beauvais, with a total of more than 250,000 seats on sale on flights from Sarajevo in 2021. Wizz Air’s extensive network will support the BiH economy and connect Sarajevo with long-awaited destinations.

Wizz Air is an investment-grade airline with an average fleet age of 5.4 years, consisting of the most efficient and sustainable narrow-body aircraft currently available on the market, the Airbus A320 and Airbus A320neo. Wizz Air’s carbon dioxide emissions were the lowest among European airlines in fiscal year 2019 (57.2 g/km per passenger). In addition, the airline has the largest order book of the state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo family aircraft, with 268, which will enable it to further reduce its carbon footprint by 30 percent per passenger by 2030.

Wizz Air has also ushered in a new era of sanitary travel with enhanced hygiene measures to ensure the health and safety of passengers and crew.

By adding the WIZZ Flex option to their booking, passengers can be assured that if circumstances change or they wish to change their travel dates, they will be able to book any WIZZ flight of their choice. In these uncertain times, it is important to reduce worry and provide an additional level of protection for their travel reservations.

Speaking at today’s press conference, Andras Rado, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at Wizz Air, said that he was pleased that after eight years of successful operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he could announce a second Bosnian base in Sarajevo, as they see the potential and demand for low-cost travel.

“Today’s announcement is an indication of our commitment to being present in Bosnia and Herzegovina and providing more affordable travel opportunities, while adhering to the highest standards of our hygiene protocols. Our state-of-the-art aircraft, as well as our enhanced protective measures, will ensure the best sanitary conditions for passengers. Wizz Air operates the youngest and most economically efficient fleet of aircraft with the smallest environmental footprint in Europe. I am confident that Wizz Air will have a positive impact on the economic development and growth of tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he said.

Nermin Zijadić, Director of the Traffic and Air Traffic Services Sector at Sarajevo International Airport, said that first of all, he must emphasize that they are very pleased that Wizz Air has decided to establish a base at this airport, and he believes that this is news that will please many of our citizens, both because of the favorable ticket prices and because of the destinations they plan to introduce.

“It is particularly important that these will be destinations where our numerous diaspora lives. This important company established the Budapest – Sarajevo route four years ago, for which there was great interest and thanks to which a large number of citizens visited the beautiful capital of Hungary, but which also enabled the arrival of a large number of tourists to our city. Opening a base in Sarajevo would be very significant for the Airport, but also for the entire tourism sector. As is usually the case, a company’s base at one airport means generating a larger volume of traffic. All of this is very important, not only for Sarajevo Airport, but also for the entire tourism sector in BiH and all entities whose work and recovery in the coming period largely depend on the recovery of air traffic in our country,” he said.
