OFFICIAL: THE UNITED KINGDOM IS A CO-SPONSORING THE RESOLUTION AND WILL CALL OUT THOSE WHO OPPOSE IT

BH UK Network, a community of BH associations in the United Kingdom, recently sent a letter to the United Kingdom government calling on it to support the proposed resolution on Srebrenica.

By supporting the resolution, we not only recognize as a country the pain and suffering of those who experienced mass atrocities, but we are also resolute in our responsibility to prevent further victimization of survivors and their families through denial. This would be a clear sign of our support for Bosnia and Herzegovina in facilitating reconciliation and stability in the region, the letter states.

Odgovor Ministarstva Vanjskih Poslova Ujedinjenog KraljevstvaAfter a series of encouraging messages in the media, BH UK Network received an official response from the UK Foreign Office today.

“Thank you for your email of 24 April to the Foreign Secretary, inviting the United Kingdom to co-sponsor the proposed UN General Assembly resolution establishing an International Day of Reflection and Remembrance for the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide.

The UK is proud to support the draft resolution and can confirm that we are a co-sponsor. As the Foreign Secretary said in his appearance before the House of Lords International Relations and Defence Committee on 30 April, we will campaign for the resolution and call out those who oppose it,” the letter said.

We thank the United Kingdom Government for its continued support for our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
