Dear friends,
The day of the 22nd Bosnian and Herzegovinian School Gathering in Great Britain is approaching. We have already entered the third decade of continuous holding of such gatherings, which have already become a tradition. This gathering has been growing in size over the years, and is probably one of the largest gatherings of Bosnians and Herzegovinians living on the Island, for whom this is a unique opportunity to see and refresh old memories and make new friends.
Due to epidemiological conditions, this year the school meeting will be held online. Unfortunately, it won’t be like before when we can see each other, talk, and meet new people. However, we will not allow the current situation to distract us from showing what our youngest have learned during the previous school year.
Therefore, we invite you to join us online, on June 26th, starting at 7:00 PM. On that occasion, we will be addressed by students from BiH supplementary schools in the United Kingdom who have made the effort to present their knowledge and experience in BiH supplementary schools. The following BiH supplementary schools will participate: Victoria- London, Coventry, Birmingham, Manchester, Hertfordshire and Derby.
Schools promote our history, culture and national identity both through regular classes and through organizing celebrations of the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the commemoration of Srebrenica, the School Gathering in the UK, etc. Special attention is paid to the mother tongue in the work of Bosnian supplementary schools. Since the establishment of the first Bosnian supplementary schools more than 25 years ago, on average, more than 200 students have attended the schools annually. In this way, schools have saved many of our children from forgetting their native language, their homeland, their parents’ birthplace, and have enabled them to speak with their relatives and friends during the holidays in a language they understand, rather than as foreigners.
We would like to thank all individuals, primarily volunteer teachers, parents of students who have invested their effort and time in humane, humane and responsible work for the benefit of all of us and our wider homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
