Organized by the World Federation of Diaspora of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SSD BiH) and under the auspices of the Municipality of Travnik and the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Dr. Denis Bećirović, the 19th BiH Diaspora World Futsal Championship was held this weekend on Vlašić.
13 national teams participated and the tournament was played in the Sports Hall of the Sunce Hotel in Babanovac. After exciting matches in the final match, Turkey won against Denmark after a penalty shootout, and in the match for third place, also after a penalty shootout, Austria defeated Germany.
Previous championships were organized in the city of Linz in Austria, the three-time organizer of this eminent competition, then Antwerp in Belgium, Munich in Germany, Birmingham in Great Britain, Luxembourg, Velika Kladuša in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bielle in Italy, and the honor of hosting the 10th World Cup went to the Federation of BiH Associations in Sweden and the city of Vesteras. After Sweden, the hosts were Ljubljana and Slovenia, Hobro (Denmark), Piacenza (Italy), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Oslo (Norway) and the city of Izmir in Turkey twice. Last year’s WC was held in Sarajevo.
The Bosnian Diaspora Futsal World Championships are the most massive form of gathering of young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina or of Bosnian origin living in the diaspora and are based on the principle of gathering young people from 16 countries of the world and on the basis of one country, one team.
