We invite you to a tree planting ceremony in Birmingham in memory of the Srebrenica genocide. The tree planting is a result of collaboration between the Remembering Srebrenica West Midlands regional committee. with Birmingham City Council.

As a long-time collaborator of the Municipality of Birmingham and the organization Remembering Srebrenica, BH UK Network supports this project and believes it is important in order to preserve the memory of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, and thereby enrich the environment.

What happened in Srebrenica?

Units of Serbs from Bosnia occupied the town of Srebrenica on July 11, 1995.

In less than two weeks, their forces systematically killed more than 8,000 Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) – the worst act of mass killing on European soil since the end of World War II.

Thousands were executed and then bulldozed into mass graves.

Reports indicate that some were buried alive, while some adults were forced to watch as their children were killed. Terrified civilians were told not to fear for their lives as his forces began the massacre.

To date, 6,652 victims have been buried at the Potočari Memorial Center, while 237 people have been buried at other locations, at the request of the families of those killed. More than 1,000 missing people are still being sought.
