Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a series of measures that will come into effect from July 4, easing the coronavirus lockdown in England.

Distancing guidelines

From 4th July in England, the distance measures of 2 meters will change.

The Prime Minister said that where it is not possible to stay two metres apart, people should maintain a distance of “one metre plus” – that is, they stay one metre apart, while respecting precautions to reduce the risk of transmission.

Businesses are asked to help:

* avoiding sitting face to face by changing the layout in the office

* reducing the number of people in closed spaces

* improving ventilation

* use of protective screens and protective masks

* closing non-essential social spaces

* providing hand sanitizer

* changing shift patterns so that staff work in specific teams

In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the 2-metre separation rule remains in place for now.

Hospitality

Restaurants and pubs in England will also be allowed to open provided they follow safety guidelines.

All indoor hospitality will be limited to table service, and contact between staff and customers will be limited.

Customers will also need to provide contact details when they enter the pub or restaurant.

Holiday accommodation – including hotels, guesthouses, holiday homes, campsites and caravan parks – can also reopen, and people in England will be able to stay out overnight for the first time since restrictions were introduced in March.

Northern Ireland also said holiday accommodation could reopen for business from June 26, and cafes and restaurants could reopen on July 3. Decisions on hospitality and leave are expected from Wales and Scotland in early July. 113057471 Bar 300x169

Seeing other people outside your household

Two households of any size will be able to meet indoors or outdoors. It is possible to stay overnight.

This does not have to be the same set of households – said the Prime Minister. “It’s possible, for example, to meet one set of grandparents one weekend and another the next weekend.”

However, the government does not recommend indoor gatherings of multiple households due to the risk of infection.

On top of that, two households would have to maintain social distance. Outdoors, people from multiple households can meet in groups of up to six – but two households can meet regardless of size.

In Scotland, people from up to three different households can now meet outdoors if they maintain social distancing, up to a maximum group size of eight people.

In Wales, any number of people from two different households can now meet outside.

Groups of up to six people who are not in the same household can meet while socializing remotely outdoors in Northern Ireland.

What will reopen?

Where possible, more outdoor spaces will be opened, including outdoor gyms and children’s playgrounds

* Hairdressers will be able to reopen as long as they take precautionary measures. Other close contact services, such as nail salons, will not yet open, but the Prime Minister said they would be able to open “as soon as we are confident they can operate safely”.

* Libraries, community centres, bingo halls, cinemas, museums and galleries will be allowed to open, along with amusement and theme parks, amusement arcades, outdoor ice rinks, social clubs and model villages

* Places of worship will be able to open for prayers and services, including weddings with up to 30 guests – subject to social distancing

Pubs, cafes, coffee shops and restaurants in England will soon be able to welcome customers for the first time since being locked down in March.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on June 23 that they would be able to reopen on July 4.

He also announced that the two-month social distancing will be relaxed to “one meter plus”, under certain conditions.

But despite the easing of restrictions, a trip to the local bar or place to eat could be a very different experience than it was before the coronavirus outbreak.

* Nightclubs and casinos remain closed, along with bowling alleys, spas, swimming pools, indoor gyms and soft play areas

* Theaters and concert halls will not be able to host live performances – but the Prime Minister said the government would work with the arts industry on specific instructions to enable choirs, orchestras and theaters to resume live events as quickly as possible.
