A festive celebration of Eid al-Fitr was held yesterday at the Bosnian House in Birmingham, organized by the BH UK Network and the Bosnian Association of Birmingham, under the patronage of the Honorary Consulate of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Midlands region.

This significant event brought together members of our community from all generations, friends of the community, and representatives of local authorities—reaffirming once again the importance of the Bosnian House as a place for gathering, togetherness, and openness.

The program was hosted by Harun Zlomužica and Mae Fawzi, graduates of the BH Supplementary School, who guided the attendees through the evening’s proceedings in a truly beautiful and dignified manner.

The event began with a recitation of a passage from the Holy Quran, followed by a rich cultural and religious program, including *ilahije* (Islamic devotional songs) and recitations. Participants included graduates and students from the Birmingham Supplementary School, as well as the youngest members of the community—those yet to begin their formal schooling—which lent the event a special warmth and a symbolic connection to the future.

Dr. Anes Cerić, Honorary Consul and Executive Director of the BH UK Network, addressed the attendees, noting that the Bosnian House is more than just a building; it is a space where different cultures meet and where everyone belongs to a single community.

He highlighted that more than 900 people visited the Bosnian House during the month of Ramadan, underscoring its significance as a hub for togetherness and solidarity. He also emphasized the importance of representing our own community in an authentic way, and expressed gratitude to the pioneers who laid the foundations for today’s strong and organized community.

Azhar ef. Gazibegović, the Imam of the Bosnian Mosque in Birmingham, delivered a powerful Eid message, highlighting that Eid serves as the culmination of the month of Ramadan and a reminder of the values of patience, solidarity, and care for others.

He noted that Eid is a time for forgiveness and for strengthening family and friendly bonds—an opportunity to open our hearts to one another, especially to those most in need—and urged those present to continue living by these values even after Ramadan.

A performance by the children brought special joy, and the program concluded with the distribution of Eid gift packages to the youngest attendees, a group photo, and a social gathering around a traditional Eid spread.

We extend special thanks to Lejla Golos for her outstanding coordination of the event, as well as to all the hardworking women of our community who prepared an array of delicious Eid sweets.

Once again, this Eid, the Bosnian House has reaffirmed its role as a place that brings people together, builds bridges between communities, and preserves identity, tradition, and values for future generations.

Bajram Šerif Mubarek Olsun!
