Vyshyvanka Day in Birmingham was celebrated with great spirit and emotion this year, bringing together over 150 members of the Ukrainian community at Bosnia House . The event, organised by Bosnia UK Network, was a moving tribute to Ukrainian culture, resilience and togetherness — complete with traditional music, embroidered shirts and powerful moments of bonding.
The day was marked by genuine laughter, shared tears, songs of hope and conversations that reflected a deep sense of belonging. Participants proudly wore their embroideries — traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts — honoring their heritage and asserting their identity in challenging times.
This annual celebration is much more than a cultural tradition — it is a symbol of the strength of the Ukrainian people and their pride in preserving what is theirs. The community used the event not only to celebrate, but also to express support for the Ukrainian military and solidarity with those affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The event was also attended by distinguished guests, including West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster , Mayor of Birmingham Ken Wood and Councillor Rashad Mahmood . Their presence highlighted the importance of community, cross-cultural solidarity and support for local diaspora communities.
Special thanks go to our dear colleague Marija Shvenko , whose extraordinary creativity, passion and selfless effort made this event an unforgettable experience for all present. Her energy and dedication were key to bringing the celebration to life and left a strong impression on all participants.
Bosnia UK Network was proud to host this significant gathering and remains committed to strengthening community, cultural pride and support for all those seeking a new place in the sun, while remaining deeply connected to their roots.
