Yesterday, Bosnia UK Network had the honor of hosting distinguished guests from Birmingham’s sister city – Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine.

Image 85During the meeting, the guests learned about the support that the Bosnian House provides to Ukrainians in Birmingham through the Ukrainian Project, which has been implemented with the support of Birmingham City Council since 2023. This support includes English language classes, employment assistance, the establishment of a Ukrainian supplementary school, as well as the organization of cultural and traditional events.

Image 86Representatives of the Ukrainian community — Maria Shvenko, Lucy Sadova, Katya Marcõ, Irene Sheyko, Oksana Pavliukova, and Kateryna Qader — spoke about how their cultural and volunteer activities help Ukrainians in Birmingham stay connected and united, and about their contribution to humanitarian and advocacy activities for Ukraine during these challenging times.

Image 87Anes Cerić, Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Midlands and Director of the Bosnia UK Network, stressed that the Bosnian House remains fully committed to supporting the Ukrainian community in Birmingham and will continue to contribute to the development of partnership relations between the two cities.

Image 88Marsela Kalaja Hoxha, Funding Manager at Birmingham City Council, highlighted the important role of the Ukrainian community in advocating for and promoting Ukraine in the United Kingdom, as well as in preserving and presenting Ukrainian history and culture.
