The President of the Remembering Srebrenica Foundation, Dr. Waqar Azmi OBE, visited Sanski Most. It was an opportunity to emphasize the importance of spreading the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica, but also about the events that marked the period 1992-1995 in the Bosnian Krajina. Mayor Hasanbegović thanked Dr. Waqar for his visit and for everything he does to spread the truth as far as possible to the world. Dr. Waqar Azmi OBE, accompanied by his associates and the mayor of the Sana municipality, visited the Šejkovača Identification Center, where the remains of victims exhumed at the sites of the Bosnian Krajina are located.

The founder and director of the “Idriz Jakupović” Foundation, Dr. Ajdin Jakupović, was also present at this meeting. He briefly presented the work of the foundation he manages to the distinguished guest from Great Britain and on that occasion presented Mr. Azma Waqar with the Monograph of the “Idriz Jakupović” Foundation 2014-2018.

After the Sana Most festival, a visit to mass graves in the Prijedor area and participation in the “Path of Light” walk are planned as a sign of paying tribute to all victims of the Trnopolje camp and the 27th anniversary of the suffering in the “Omarska” camp.

67511881 10211885060801677 6968851417222086656 N 225x300With the help of the organization “ Remembering Srebrenica ”, headed by Dr Waqar Azmi OBE , lectures, speeches by survivors, exhibitions, commemorations, workshops and screenings of documentaries, classical music concerts, plays, and peaceful walks were organized in many British cities during the Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Week in July. In 2019, more than 1,100 events were held in the UK, which were attended by large numbers of people. In addition to the commemorations, the organization “ Remembering Srebrenica ” works in schools across the country and has worked with more than 95,000 children through educational packages on the lessons learned from the Srebrenica genocide and other educational activities. Waqar Azmi was named one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world by Georgetown University, is a former advisor to the British Government and EU Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue.
