Dear Bosnians and Herzegovinians,
The day marking the 21st meeting of Bosnian-Herzegovinian supplementary schools in Great Britain is approaching.
This is a traditional annual activity organized by the BH UK Network, the umbrella organization for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the United Kingdom. This gathering has grown over the years, and is probably the largest gathering of Bosnians and Herzegovinians living on the Island, for whom this is a unique opportunity to see and refresh old memories and make new friends.
The first Bosnian supplementary schools were organized in the 1990s. Today, there are active schools in six cities (London, Hertfordshire, Derby, Coventry, Birmingham and Manchester). Attending a Bosnian supplementary school is not only about literacy, it is also a social factor, because it helps a child to get to know their peers and to have an awareness of belonging to a community, and it will certainly enable easier communication with friends and relatives in our homeland.
Therefore, Derby Bosnia Herzegovina community Association, the organizer on behalf of BH UK Network, invites you to make this event special by your presence at the premises of the “Derby Moor” Academy starting at 10 am. This year, as in previous years, preparations for the organization of another traditional gathering of Bosnian supplementary schools are well underway and we expect a rich cultural and entertainment program.
Derby Bosnia Herzegovina Community Association, a Bosnian citizens’ association in Derby, was formed in January 1995. From the very beginning, the organization has offered its services to the community, especially services to users from the former Yugoslavia and the East Midlands region.
The dear host from Derby will do his best to extend a sincere and pleasant welcome to his guests this year. We believe that he will do his best to provide a reminder of Bosnian culture, customs and traditions, even though they are miles away from our beloved Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Given that every year the boundaries of organization and gathering are pushed in a positive direction, we have no doubt that this year’s meeting will bring new pleasant surprises and unforgettable socializing in the heart of Great Britain.
