The Association for Culture – New Light (KNS) is launching an initial project for the cooperation of Balkan poets and poets – “Balkan Poets’ Union”, on the initiative of Žana Coven (Italy), Ivan Gaćina (Croatia) and Ibrahim Osmanbašić (BiH) – which will form the Organizing Committee of the International Literary Manifestation – “Poetry of the Year – 2020”. The competition will take place in three cycles: 1) 01.04. – 30.06; 2) 01.07–30.9; 3) 01.10. –5.12., and the final evening and award ceremony will be held by the end of the year.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENT ARE:
– affirmation of Balkan poetic creativity;
– promotion of artistic values in poetic expression;
– regional literary cooperation in the field of poetry;
– international poetic collaboration.
In accordance with the decision of the Organizing Committee (Number: BPU-01-01-20, dated March 31, 2020), the following is announced:
COMPETITION
POETRY OF THE YEAR – 2020
for submitting representative works of art for participation in the event program
II cycle: 01.07.–30.9.2020.
Application requirements:
I) GENERAL CONDITIONS :
A) Author’s work/works (songs)
1. that the work/song is representative
2. The work can be published – in printed or virtual form; as well as awarded and praised;
3. that the text does not contain vulgarisms; on any basis;
4. that the text is not offensive;
5. that the work meets basic aesthetic and artistic standards.
B) Number and scope of works:
a) maximum two songs;
b) scope – maximum up to 60 verses.
c) thought and love poetry is expected
C) Author information:
1. first and last name
2nd year of birth
3. city and country of residence
4. contact phone number
6. email
6. short biography
7. commemorative photo
II) CATEGORIES
A) locality – no restrictions
B) age – all persons older than 18 years.
C) language:
1. that the text is written in one of the following languages: Croatian, Serbian, Montenegrin and Bosnian;
2. Slovenian and Macedonian languages are also considered, as well as languages of national minorities, such as Romani, Albanian, Hungarian, Italian, etc., but in that case a high-quality rendition should be submitted along with the original;
3. The work is submitted in Latin or Cyrillic, but it will be transliterated and published in Latin script since the competition is international in nature.
III) DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF WORKS

The contest is open until September 30, 2020. year. (II cycle)
IV) SELECTION OF WORKS
– The selection of submitted works for inclusion in the joint collection will be made by an expert jury, which will remain anonymous until the results are published, no later than October 15, 2020 on the portal www.kns.ba
– Works by authors who do not meet the requirements of the public call will not be considered.
– Selected works are shortlisted for the planned awards and recognitions.
– Selected works will be included in a joint collection (in electronic and/or printed form), with the electronic version being free, while the printed version will be paid for (only for those who want a printed copy),
– Authors of selected works in the qualification cycles will be offered membership in the “Balkan Poetry Union”.
– The same authors can apply for each cycle with two representative songs.
– Authors who perform the function of a member of the jury cannot apply for works in that election cycle.
V) GRANT OF AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
– All information regarding the final event and the awarding of awards and recognitions will be made public later, and participants will be informed in a timely manner.
VI) GENERAL NOTES
– Proofread texts are sent (type diacritical marks “č,ć,đ,,dž,š,ž”, the work must not be written in capital letters, etc.)
– On the page behind the works, include the above information about the author.
– Texts are sent in Word format (in *.doc or *.docx, but we prefer *.doc), not in the body of the e-mail.
– All texts are sent in one file, which you should title with the author’s name (not the titles of the papers).
– The organizer is not responsible in the event of misuse of copyright of submitted works by participants or third parties.
– When submitting works to the competition, the authors automatically give their consent for their work to be published, with the condition that the organizer is not obliged to pay monetary compensation to the authors.
– By participating in the competition, all participants agree to the terms and conditions of the competition.
– The organizer does not undertake to publish all submitted works on its portal.
– Due to unforeseen circumstances, the organizer reserves the right to change the program or postpone the event without additional explanation to the applicants.
