As part of the project “Preserving the Bosnian–British Story for Future Generations,” we have continued documentary filming at Bosnia House, focusing on the role of folklore and cultural practices among young people in preserving the identity, traditions, and cultural continuity of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora in the United Kingdom.
Through a qualitative approach that includes interviews with participants, we explore how folklore functions as a mechanism of intergenerational transmission of identity, as well as a tool for strengthening a sense of belonging and social cohesion in the context of migration.
This segment of the project confirms that cultural practices, particularly folklore, play a crucial role in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and in empowering young people to develop a positive and informed relationship with their heritage, while at the same time actively and confidently participating in the society of their host country.
In the coming period, we plan to expand our research activities, involve additional participants from different parts of the United Kingdom, and continue the systematic collection of audiovisual and archival material, with the aim of ensuring its long-term preservation and public accessibility.
