This year’s Holocaust Memorial Ceremony in Birmingham brought together survivors, faith leaders, young people, artists and representatives of diverse communities for a dignified and powerful act of remembrance.

The ceremony was opened by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE, and hosted by Adrian Goldberg. Members of the public were invited to light candles of remembrance, followed by a minute’s silence in honour of the victims, with Holocaust survivor Mindu Hornick MBE and her family in attendance.

The commemoration remembered not only the Holocaust but also the victims of subsequent genocides, serving as a lasting reminder that crimes against humanity must never be forgotten or repeated.

This year’s theme, “Bridging Generations”, reminds us of our responsibility to pass on the truth about the Holocaust and genocides to younger generations, ensuring that remembrance does not fade but lives on through young people.

We are proud that Remembering Srebrenica and our friend Aron Mon have been officially recognised as part of Birmingham’s Holocaust Memorial Day Steering Group.

Together, we build bridges between the past, present and future—so that such atrocities never happen again.
