Convicted war criminal Momčilo Krajišnik died today at UC Banja Luka as a result of the coronavirus.
On August 29, due to a deterioration in his health caused by the coronavirus, he was transferred by helicopter from Pale to Banja Luka, where he was hospitalized at the University Clinical Center and connected to a respirator.
Krajišnik was arrested on the basis of an indictment by the Hague Prosecutor’s Office in 2000. According to that indictment, he was charged with extermination, murder, persecution on political, racial or religious grounds, deportations and inhuman treatment, as well as crimes against humanity. However, the Hague Tribunal dismissed part of the indictment for genocide.
He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2006, with time served in detention included in his sentence. He was released after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
