Dear teachers, happy World Teachers’ Day

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5 October in more than a hundred countries around the world. It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1994 to commemorate the same date in 1966 when the Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers was signed. The aim of World Teachers’ Day is to mobilize support for teachers to ensure that teachers continue to meet the needs of future generations, to elevate education to a level of social relevance, and to lift teachers out of semi-anonymity and give them the social importance they deserve.

Education International (EI), the Brussels-based global federation of education professionals’ unions, strongly believes that World Teachers’ Day should be internationally recognized and celebrated worldwide. The efforts of Education International and its 401 member organizations have contributed to the international recognition and celebration of the day worldwide.

This year, teachers faced numerous challenges, especially in this time of the coronavirus pandemic, which we all have to learn to live with. Thank you for your daily effort, patience, perseverance and support that you provide to your students. Never forget how important your role in society is, especially among children of BiH origin in Great Britain, and be aware of the fact that you are a role model for many students!

BH UK NETWORK congratulates all teachers on October 5, World Teachers’ Day.
