This year, BH UK Network, in collaboration with Bosnian and Herzegovinian supplementary schools in the United Kingdom and distinguished guests, organized the celebration of the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, this year’s celebration was different compared to previous years. Due to the current situation with the coronavirus and the state lockdown in the United Kingdom, the event was held online, as are most events organized at this time. 76 participants took part in the two-hour program.
The program began, as usual, with the singing of the BiH national anthem. Distinguished guests also participated, giving their contribution to the event, who addressed BiH citizens in Great Britain with video messages. Even though they are miles away from their home country, the citizens of BiH who live and work in Great Britain expressed their satisfaction that the distinguished guests found the time to mark a significant date for Bosnia and Herzegovina together in this way.
The program was attended by: Valentin Inzko , High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina; H.E. Vanja Filipović, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Kingdom; Prof. Dr. Ejup Ganić , Member of the Wartime Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Prof. Dr. Mirko Pejanović , Member of the Wartime Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Stjepan Mesić, President of the Republic of Croatia 2000-2010; Jennifer Stone – Wigg, MBE , Patron of the BH UK Network; Jovan Divjak , Retired General of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina; H.E. Vanja Filipović, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Kingdom; Azra Bašić , long-time teacher of Bosnian supplementary schools in the United Kingdom; Džanan Musa , Bosnian and Herzegovina basketball player for BiH; Dr. Amra Šabić-El-Rayess , author of the book “The Cat I Never Named”; Prof. Dr. Husnija Kamberović , Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo; Kemal Balihodžić , Director of the company “UP TREND MARKETING SOLUTIONS”; Zaim Pašić , President of BH UK Network.
A great contribution to the event was made by the students of BiH supplementary schools in England (Birmingham, Coventry, Victoria London, Hertfordshire, Derby and Manchester schools) with their teachers and parents who made an effort to professionally and cordially present their love for the homeland of BiH. All of them showed that with tireless work they can prove that their roots are important to them, and that the young generations get to know where they are from and not to forget their ancestors. It is also worth mentioning the fact that the students, participants in this program, are children born in Great Britain. But their desire and effort, as well as that of their parents and teachers, to learn about Bosnia and Herzegovina is great.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the children, their parents and teachers for your efforts and cooperation in beautifying the program on the occasion of the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was an exceptional honor and pleasure for us to watch and listen to the address of the students of BiH supplementary schools in Great Britain. We noticed that no other country managed to organize a similar event on this level, as we did in Great Britain. We can only say that we should be proud of our little ambassadors, teachers, parents, BH supplementary schools and BH. associations in Great Britain.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the Marić, Gromilić, Dergić, Fazlić and Šabić families for the technical errors. The worst thing is to disappoint children. We immediately responded to the errors and they were all corrected immediately.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the realization of this event. Thank you for your trust and kindness.
We congratulate all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Independence Day of our one and only homeland.
