Yesterday, the member of the British Parliament, Pauline Latham OBE, had the pleasure of visiting the Bosnia and Herzegovina center in Derby on Curzon Street and meeting with Mr. Ferid Kevrić, the manager of the center and his wonderful team.
On this occasion she learned all about the incredible work and support that the team and the centre provide to displaced people from the former Yugoslavia, who are now living in Derby. Derby Bosnia Herzegovina Community Association, a Bosnian community association in Derby, was formed in January 1995. Since its inception, the organisation has offered its services to the community, particularly to users from the former Yugoslavia in the East Midlands region. She also met a dedicated team of volunteers from the Derby Refugee Forum, who work within the centre, providing help and support to asylum seekers and refugees with local information, financial advice, English language courses and many other services.
Ms Latham is a long-time supporter of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and recently visited the Select Committee on International Development, developing inter-parliamentary relations and strengthening their support on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of freedom.
She recently participated in a debate and mentioned the possibility of Russian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. in the House of Commons, asking the deputy leading the debate:
“Does he share my concerns about any future aggression by President Putin in the region and will he press the Minister on what steps this Government is taking to ensure the security of the Balkans in light of the current geopolitical crisis?”
