On this occasion, we express our sincere gratitude to the Bosnia UK Network organization from Great Britain.

Bosnia UK Network is the umbrella organization of all Bosnian and Herzegovinian associations in the United Kingdom.

Every year, they organize commemorations of the genocide on July 11 in cities. of Great Britain and bring representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, they also organize the visit of the British to Potočari and Srebrenica.

We sincerely thank them for the help they provided to our Association in organizing this year’s Peace March.

We would like to express our special gratitude for donating tents to accommodate genocide survivors during the march, as well as for helping to print 5,000 brochures in Bosnian and 500 in English.

On Friday morning, a Peace March set off from Nezuk towards Potočari near Srebrenica, where more victims killed by Bosnian Serb forces in 1995 in the UN-protected enclave will be buried on the anniversary of the genocide on July 11th.

Participants will march in the coming days move the route that the people of Srebrenica tried to take in the summer of 1995 to free territories, respectively to Tuzla or Betting.

After a journey of about 110 kilometers, the students of the expedition will arrive in Potočari on July 10, where a day later they will attend the collective funeral and burial of 50 victims of genocide at the cemetery of the Srebrenica – Potočari Memorial Center.

Federations Bosnia and Herzegovina Melika Mahmutbegovic, Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton Irfan Halilagić, Minister for Veterans Affairs TK Zoran Blagojević, as well as members of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.

It is planned that the participants of the march, after walking 30 kilometers on the first day, will reach the Liplje camp, where they will spend the night.

Given that this year’s “Peace March” coincides with Eid al-Fitr, the Eid al-Fitr prayer was organized in Camp Liplje. After the Eid prayer, the participants of the “March of Peace” continue their journey to Kamenica, known as the “valley of mass graves”.

After 35 kilometers of travel, they should reach the village of Mravinjci. From there, they will continue to Kameničko Brdo, then continue through Buljime and end their journey on July 10 at the Potočari Memorial Center.

Cyclists and marathon runners set off for Potočari

At the same time, more than 300 cyclists set off from Bihać in northwestern Bosnia towards Srebrenica. This is also a traditional march, taking place for the 18th time.

“This year we have more than 300 participants from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Turkey and the United States of America,” says organizer Ermin Lipović from the “Limit” Bihać Extreme Sports Club.

More than 20 participants of the “Bihać – Srebrenica” athletics marathon will follow the cyclists.

“At this year’s 13th athletic marathon ‘Bihać – Srebrenica’, we have 21 participants, who will run about 500 kilometers to Srebrenica, and in this way spread the message of respect and peace,” said one of the organizers, Himzo Šabić.

The cyclists will ride the first stage to Jajce on Friday, where they will perform Eid prayers on Saturday morning. They will then continue to Sarajevo, and on July 10, they will ride the final section, Sarajevo – Potočari Memorial Center.

So far, 6,671 victims of genocide have been buried in this center, while 250 victims have been buried in local cemeteries at the request of surviving family members.

The Potočari Memorial Center was opened by former US President Bill Clinton in 2003, during which 989 victims of the genocide were buried in three mass funerals.

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has declared July 11th a Day of Mourning in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
