The British heir to the throne is coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina on 17-18 March 2020, the British Embassy in BiH announced.

The Prince of Wales will visit Sarajevo where he will meet with members of the Presidency of BiH, and representatives from the fields of business, politics, culture, civil society and the Armed Forces.

His Majesty will also meet with religious leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina to recognise their work in reconciliation and building understanding between communities. His Royal Highness will learn about how the UK is helping survivors of wartime sexual violence overcome the stigma they and their families face.

In addition to the visit to Sarajevo, the key part will be the visit to the Memorial Center in Srebrenica and the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the genocide. Accompanied by representatives of the survivors’ association, among whom will be mothers who are still searching for their missing family members, His Highness will pay tribute to the victims. In Srebrenica and in Sarajevo, he will have the opportunity to hear details about how much has been done to find persons who are still missing in the entire region.

He previously met with families of missing persons from BiH and the entire region at his home in 2017 and 2018.

His Highness will also visit local artisans and tour some of the historical sites in the old part of Sarajevo. He will meet with people who are working to improve the future of their country, such as social entrepreneurs, activists, food producers and other leaders in sustainable development.

Primary school students from different parts of BiH will present their projects developed through the “Schools for the 21st Century” programme, which the British Council is implementing in all primary schools in the Western Balkans. In a context of high emigration, this gives young people the opportunity to acquire new IT skills, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and offers them greater incentive to stay and shape the future of their country.

The statement added that the prince will meet with British soldiers who contribute to maintaining security in BiH and strengthen defense cooperation between BiH and the UK.

The visit of the Prince of Wales to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is an indication of the increasing commitment of the United Kingdom to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region of the Western Balkans, its support for reforms that will improve the lives of citizens and create a brighter future, as well as the long-standing personal commitment of His Highness to reconciliation in the Western Balkans.

This is the fourth visit of the prince to our country. His Highness last visited Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2007, and in 2016 he visited other countries of the Western Balkans.
