This extraordinary production brings together artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rwanda, Ukraine and Ireland , countries and communities that share similar experiences of war, persecution and resilience. Through a unique combination of physical theatre, projections, music and personal testimonies , the performance connects voices and memories that transcend borders, exploring universal themes of memory, loss, survival and solidarity .
The play takes the audience on an emotional journey – from the tragedy of genocide to the strength of the human spirit – confronting us not only with the horrors of what happened, but also with the silence that often follows. By combining intimate personal stories and collective memory, Flowers of Srebrenica invites us to reflect on how societies heal their wounds, how truth is preserved, and how memory can become a catalyst for the fight against hatred and denial.
At its core, the play asks a deep question:
How do we remember crimes – and how do we carry their lessons forward?
She reminds us that memory can be an act of resistance , an act dedicated to truth, empathy and shared responsibility to ensure that such crimes never happen again.
The play was created in collaboration between LegalAliens Theatre (UK) and Sarajevo War Theatre – SARTR (BiH) , and represents not only a commemoration of the past, but also a call for solidarity, humanity and hope – so that the voices of Srebrenica, and all those who survived the violence and loss, can be heard and passed on through generations.
