The Bosnian House in Birmingham was filled with something much bigger than festivities, it was filled with heart.
Two of our five-year-old girls, Maya and Alma, born here in
, took the stage in front of HE Željko Komšić and more than 200 guests… and recited about the homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnian is their second language.
But the way they recited – clearly, fluently, with an accent as if they were born in Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka, Tuzla… it was a moment that touched everyone present.
These girls are proof that love for Bosnia and Herzegovina knows no borders, no kilometers.
It is transmitted through the heart, in the family, through language, tradition, and the community that we preserve in the diaspora.
Thank you to their parents, BiH schools that have been working continuously in Ostrava for more than 30 years, and all the volunteers who preserve our identity and pass it on to the youngest.
And the biggest thanks to the two of them – the little ambassadors of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the UK.
Bosnia lives in them. And because of them, he lives here in the UK.
