In the UK they represent Bosnia and Herzegovina, and outside the UK they represent Birmingham.
We have witnessed examples of some of our youth “freezing” contact with our community for a while after finishing the BH supplementary school. There are quite a few examples where they are reactivated after marriage and when their youngster is old enough for school. Everyone has the right to their own choice.
Many of them recently graduated from BH school. Most of them study outside of Birmingham. However, even geographical distance is not an obstacle when one has the desire and will to maintain continuous contact with one’s community. It is precisely this love for the homeland and to present it in the most beautiful light that unites them.
The girls have been proudly presenting the culture of our homeland for years. They create the choreographies for their performances themselves. They have taken on the responsibility of teaching the youth of our KUD, which currently has around 40 members. In May, they represented the UK at a culture and folklore festival held in Italy, which was exceptionally organized by Ljiljan Italia, headed by president Mirsad Starčevic. Preparations are already underway for a performance in Scandinavia, which is planned for the spring of next year.
They recently received a special recognition from UK Government Minister Lord Wajid Khan .The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Association Birmingham and the BH UK Network are proud of these girls and the many members of our community who enrich our work every day with their activism. In this way, they contribute to our recognition as one of the most organized communities in Birmingham – a city where more than 100 languages are spoken every day.
As a sign of attention and gratitude, we treated the girls to dinner and ice skating.
