Last weekend, we were blessed with a visit from Mujo Delić and Huso Bektić. They found time to come from the south of England, as their commitments allowed, and to visit the premises of the Bosnian House in Birmingham. They are survivors of the Srebrenica genocide who, from the moment they arrived on island soil, have been trying to build a new life with their families.
Mujo Delić was a member of the Board of Directors of BH UK Network for many years and expressed his sincere satisfaction after seeing Bosanska House in a new light.

During the visit, they discussed preparations for the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide and how our community in the UK can help in a concrete way. They praised the work and expressed their unreserved support for the organization “Remembering Srebrenica”. They also discussed how BiH citizens can and should become more actively involved and help with the realization of the planned commemorations for the current year.

The organisation “Remembering Srebrenica” was founded in 2013 and is based in Birmingham, UK. The aim of the organisation is to raise awareness about the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, about what hatred brings, and to educate young people about the atrocities in Srebrenica. So far, they have managed to educate more than 90,000 young British people about the genocide in Srebrenica, and have organised over 6,200 events to commemorate the victims of the genocide. They have also organised 1,200 British people to visit the Potočari memorial centre. Hundreds of commemorations on this theme will be held across the country in local communities, schools and town halls during the Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Week in the UK, which will run from 5 to 12 July 2020. The central commemoration will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral on Monday 6 July 2020. More than 2,000 guests are expected to attend, including civic and political leaders, members of the Bosnian community and students

After visiting the Bosnian House, the dear friends’ stay in Birmingham was also used to visit the nearby town of Stratford Upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, who is considered the greatest English-language writer of all time, and also the world’s greatest playwright.
