Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a national holiday celebrated on 1 March each year, celebrating the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The referendum for the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held on the recommendation of the Arbitration Commission of the International Conference on Yugoslavia, in the final phase of the dissolution of the former SFRY. It was held on 29 February and 1 March, and marked the commitment of citizens to the future of the country, and was also a prelude to war.
