On June 13, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met with representatives of the BH UK Network (Community of Bosnian and Herzegovinian Associations in Great Britain) during his official visit to the United Kingdom.
The meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the diaspora and the homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Minister Konaković emphasized the importance of the Bosnian and Herzegovina diaspora in the world, which is numerous, and announced that establishing better communication and cooperation with the diaspora will represent an important segment of BiH’s future diplomacy. He pointed out that he has introduced the practice of meeting with representatives of the BiH diaspora during official meetings, which invests great efforts in promoting our country in the best possible way.
President Zaim Pašić and Manager Dr. Anes Cerić informed Minister Konaković about their work, plans and initiatives that they presented during recent meetings with representatives of state institutions of our homeland.
Namely, the BH UK Network delegation recently stayed in the homeland and held a series of working meetings with institutions that have responsibility for working with the diaspora. At meetings with members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and Dr. Denis Bećirović, they offered to provide all necessary material and technical conditions for the opening of a Consulate at the Bosnian House in Birmingham. Similarly, the state-owned Foreign Investment Promotion Agency in BiH (FIPA) and the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH were offered to provide the material and technical conditions for FIPA and the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH to open their permanent representative offices in Birmingham.
During the meeting, the possibilities of introducing direct flights from the UK to BiH and visa liberalization for BiH citizens wishing to visit the United Kingdom were discussed.
In addition to facilitating the return of our citizens to their homeland, we believe that resolving these issues would greatly improve economic and cultural cooperation between Great Britain and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
BH UK Network (The Community of Bosnian and Herzegovinian Associations in Great Britain) was founded in May 1996. The main objectives of the organization include improving the quality of life for Bosnians and Herzegovinians living in Great Britain and connecting them with their homeland through numerous educational, informational, business, cultural and sporting activities. The organization has its own center, symbolically named Bosasnak House. The center was officially opened by Lord Bourne, the then Minister for Housing and Communities in Theresa May’s government, on the National Day of our homeland in 2018.
