The United Kingdom’s Srebrenica Genocide Commemoration Month began with a powerful event at St. Paul’s Cathedral, marking the beginning of national remembrance. During the coming weeks, more than 1,000 commemorations are expected across the country on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
Mujo Delić, a survivor of the genocide and organizer of the upcoming “Peace March”, stated:
“The Guildford Peace March will bring together people from across the UK in a spirit of unity and remembrance. We are deeply grateful to the UK for its continued support and for being one of the most hospitable and dedicated hosts of Srebrenica commemorations in the world.”
Following the Peace March in Guildford on Saturday, a commemoration will be held on Monday at the University of Leicester. This will be followed by a West Midlands regional commemoration in Birmingham, and a national commemoration in Cardiff, Wales.
