Respirator manufactured in Gradačac certified in Britain

We are pleased to announce that the Medical Device Testing and Evaluation Center (MD-TEC) has completed testing a prototype mechanical ventilator for use in intensive care that was recently designed and built by TMD Group doo Gradačac, with the instructions of the University Clinical Center Tuzla.

MD-TEC has produced a detailed report on functionality and usability, so TMD Group is now working on a modified prototype, the British Embassy announced.

In March 2020, in response to the UK Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the increased need for ventilators and related medical devices, MD-TEC became an approved testing centre for the UK Government’s “Ventilator Challenge” programme. To date, MD-TEC has tested prototype medical devices developed by companies from around the world.

Professor Tom Clutton-Brock , MD-TEC’s clinical director, characterized the TMD ventilator prototype as follows:

“Considering that TMD is not originally a medical device manufacturer, the ventilator achieves an exceptional level of functionality and usability. Their efforts should therefore be considered a significant achievement, and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the further development process of the prototype.”

TMD Group Director Adem Hanić said: “I am extremely proud of my team of experts who developed the ventilator prototype in such a short time, which received positive MD-TEC ratings. As we work on improvements, we are aware that we have launched a new industry sector in BiH – the production of medical devices. For the next step, we hope to obtain the CE mark and begin large-scale production. In parallel, we are looking at the possibilities of developing other medical devices.”

“The MD-TEC report is really good news for TMD Group and for Bosnia and Herzegovina. As I’ve always said, Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country of smart and hardworking people who just need to be given a chance. I’m extremely glad that we could support TMD Group in just that, and I’m looking forward to the start of full production of their fan here in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, said Matt Field, British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

MD-TEC at the Institute of Translational Medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham supports the accelerated development of medical technology solutions. Originally funded by the European Fund for Social Innovation and a collaborative partnership with the University of Birmingham and Aston University, MD-TEC is a world-class clinical testing laboratory where prototype devices can be tested and evaluated at every stage of development to ensure they are fit for purpose, contribute to patient care and ultimately add value to clinical services.
