Sixteen-year-old Elma and her younger brother were born in London. They grew up in a family atmosphere where the recent war in her parents’ homeland was an unavoidable topic. She attends the prestigious International Baccalaureate School in London and for her final project she decided to creatively present the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“My project was to present the history of the Bosnian War through dance. The reason I chose this project is that I am extremely passionate about dance and I am extremely fascinated by the history of the Bosnian War, because my family members experienced it firsthand. So I decided to be creative and incorporate the Bosnian War into an emotional, contemporary dance. I also chose this topic because I want to raise awareness about what happened during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Not many people know about the bloody war in Bosnia, so choosing this personal project of mine is extremely important to me,” said Elma.

Elma also attended classes at the BH Supplementary School in Heftfordshire. We recently had the opportunity to see some of her choreography when she performed at the central event marking the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the UK, organized by the BH UK Network.

We are proud of ELma and the young generations who always find a way to pleasantly surprise us with their creativity.

Of course, the parents are also happy and proud, both with the result achieved and the choice of topic. Father Samir is from Banja Luka, and mother is from Senj. “Today, Elma made us all very proud, not only because she achieved the highest grade in her personal project and secured her place at ISL College, but she made us even prouder with what she chose for her topic and how she represents her country of origin. A dance that represents the history of the Bosnian war. Written in 4000 words and with a choreography she created herself. Really inspiring. Well done my dear and good luck on your educational journey,” said the proud mom. Irma.

With congratulations for raising awareness of the war in our homeland in a creative way, we wish Elma the best of luck in her further education.
