A visit to the play Old Bridge, which is very popular in London and the dramaturgy is based on the novel of the same name.
The action takes place in Mostar in the 1990s during the aggression against BiH. The plot is related to the life of young people in a war zone, and the main characters are Mili the jumper from Stari most and Mina his girlfriend, who at that time dream about their future, however, the war for a time separates the couple from their friends who experience their own destinies. At the very end, the friends are together, Mili is wounded, but they continue their lives with all the consequences.
The play attracted the attention of the audience and the profession, as evidenced by its winning the prestigious “2020 Papatango New Writing Prize”. Old Bridge is a love story that takes place in a wartime environment that has been forgotten by Europe.
The story was written by Igor Memić, who was born in Mostar and grew up in London, and Old Bridge is his debut play, which was staged in the Papatango production at the Theatre in London, directed by Selma Dimitrijević.
After one of the performances, a round table was organized on the topic of Aggression on BiH and events during the war, and the panel included: Gayle Munro, deputy director within the Centre for Children & Families, Zaim Pašić, president of BH UK Network Birmingham as a representative of BHCAC London, Safet Vukalić as a survivor of the exodus in Prijedor, and the panel was led by Director Papatango.
Pašić presented the work and methods of organizing BiH citizens in Great Britain, as well as the methods of operation and functions of the BH UK Network as an alliance in the UK, and the preservation of basic cultural values through BiH supplementary schools, as well as organizing various cultural events and presenting them to the local community, and of course, helping all citizens from BiH who had difficulty adjusting to life in the UK with the establishment of the network.
