UK GOVERNMENT MINISTER PRESENTS AWARDS TO BH COMMUNITY ACTIVISTS ON THE ISLAND

Birmingham: BH UK Network (Community of Bosnian Associations in the UK) in partnership with Remembering Srebrenica UK hosted a reception in honour of UK Government Minister Lord Wajid Khan who was on his first visit to Bosnian House in Birmingham. The reception was attended by around 100 guests and representatives of the diplomatic corps, Bosnian associations and other organisations and friends of our homeland.

469884882 921025153460219 3069828583125266174 NDuring the visit, the hosts presented the activities of the Bosnian community on the island, which is considered one of the most organized on the island.

The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, HE Osman Topčagić, thanked Lord Khan for the UK Government’s continued support on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path.

BH UK Network Executive Director Dr. Anes Cerić said: “It is an honour that Lord Wajid Khan visited Bosnia House in Birmingham, especially as the general election was just five months ago and this was one of his first visits to the UK as a Government Minister”.

470214848 921025106793557 5676331465731120071 N“Bosnia House is a large, stately building in the city of Birmingham that was once the police headquarters and police museum, and now the proud headquarters of the Bosnia and Herzegovina UK Network, which is the national voice of the 10,000 Bosnian refugees who survived the Bosnian genocide and came to the UK between 1992-1995,” he said.

All Bosnian-Herzegovinian associations in the UK such as the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Advice Centre London, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Community London, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Community Coventry, the BH Association Birmingham, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Association Derby, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Association Hertfordshire, the Association of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Women in Great Britain and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Association Manchester are affiliated with the BH UK Network.

469861233 921024723460262 1886509766906772995 NChairman of Remembering Srebrenica, Dr. Waqar Azmi OBE said: “Lord Khan’s visit is important as we begin our preparations for the UK’s Srebrenica Day of Remembrance to mark the 30th anniversary of the Bosnian genocide on 17 June 2025 at St. James’s Cathedral in London, where two thousand guests are expected to attend.”

“There will also be more than two thousand memorial events and activities taking place in July across the UK in different cities and towns in schools, town halls, places of worship, workplaces, police stations and community centres, making the UK the largest commemorator of the Bosnian genocide in the world.”

“The genocide in Bosnia was a dark moment in human history. It is very important to honor the victims and their families and thus preserve the established facts, prevent the continued denial of the genocide and glorification of convicted war criminals, as well as help create a safer and more peaceful world,” he said.
