July 11th is a day when emotions run high. A day when we should show respect to the victims, but also compassion for the living. The genocide in Srebrenica is remembered with sadness and pain all over the world, especially in Europe, where July 11th has been declared the Day of Commemoration for the Victims of Srebrenica.
A minute of silence was held in Coventry at 11 a.m. in memory of the genocide in Srebrenica and all the victims of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this way, the Bosnians and Herzegovinians who gathered in the Coventry municipality building together with representatives of civil authorities, sent a message of peace and said that the genocide should not be forgotten and that it should be prevented from happening again anywhere in the world.

“We must never forget the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica. Let us not forget and let us not allow something like this to happen again, because if we forget, then there is a danger that it will happen again,” said George Duggins.
Thank you to the BiH community from Coventry who took their time to honor the victims of the genocide with a minute of silence. Because it is humanity, solidarity and empathy that make us human. That’s why today let’s mourn and honor the grief and pain of those who lost their loved ones.
We would like to thank Coventry City Council for organizing this gathering, especially Lynnette Kelly, who has been supporting the Bosnian community in the UK for over two decades. She has visited Bosnia and Herzegovina and Srebrenica on several occasions.
